6 months old!

6 months old today - time really does fly like they say it does. We continue to get bigger - seems like mostly chunkier these days. But Mom and Dad did get him a new car seat since he has really outgrown his infant one. We're still working at solid foods and this month we get to add oatmeal and yogurt. We have started doing some pretty good babbling that sounds more like actual words and that is a lot of fun. We've gotten another haircut and a half and can sit up pretty well on our own. We push up with our hands from the floor pretty well now too, but haven't really thought about using our knees for crawling although we love to bounce and wiggle around! We are looking forward to seeing everyone for the Holidays!

Santa!

Lucas had a visit from Santa at his school. His teachers said he cried the whole time - you can tell he was just crying in this picture. We probably won't do Santa again this year :)

Lucas has some really cute Christmas outfits from his Grandma that we have been wearing and are wearing one to church this morning. We would have worn our Baylor outfit (go RGIII!) but it has short sleeves and it has gotten too cold out here for short sleeves.

Yesterday, Lucas was kind enough to donate some of his outgrown items to our adopted family for Christmas. They have a 2 month old little boy, so Lucas gave them his jungle gym, lamb chair and some outgrown clothes - as well as some new clothes and lots of fun other gifts for the older kids. Mom & Dad look forward to continuing this tradition with Lucas as he gets older.

Merry Christmas!!

Hawaii!

For Lucas' 7th state, he got to visit Hawaii for Thanksgiving with grandparents, great grandparents and Uncle Brian and Aunt Jen. We had an awesome time! Lucas did a little shopping, surfing and site seeing. Unfortunately his belly was feeling a little bad while we were there and he got a little congested before we came home, but that didn't stop his good mood! He learned to make some additional sounds (thanks Great Grandma!) and he is doing an awful lot of talking after we got home today. He was an excellent traveler for a couple of really long flights and a good long road trip to Hana. This was Lucas' first time in the pool and he enjoyed kicking around like he does in the bathtub and making friends with some girls in the kiddie pool. We did some good work on rolling over and sitting up as well. We're still feeling a little crummy but just went to bed and hopefully will wake up feeling better!

5 Months

Lucas is 5 months old today! It is amazing how time flies. Also how much better he can sit up in Papa's rocking chair by himself than he could at 4 months. Lucas has continued to love his pears, but did not take so much to the peas we tried. We'll have to explore some different vegetables. At 5 months we are supposed to start having 2-3 fruits and veggies a day and starting to drink out of a sippy cup. We should be rolling over any day now but haven't quite mastered that yet.

Jungle!

Dad is enjoying his new skills with photo shop to put us in a jungle with all of our jungle toys. Lucas will be turning 5 months tomorrow :) I will get up a new picture for that occasion. He's had another check up at the doctor's for his ear infection at which he weighed 16 lbs. 12 ounces. There was still fluid in his ear but it is clearing up and his eyes have been getting better. He started eating pears on Sunday, which he loves! We tried some peas last night and were not quite as excited with those. We continue to grow and are doing very well!

Happy Halloween!

The good news is that I am the cutest shark ever. The bad news is that I have my first ear and eye infection :( We went to the doctor yesterday because Lucas' eyes had been puffy and crustier than usual for the past few days and found out he has an infection that has been going around at daycares. He has some antibiotics and had to stay home from school yesterday and today. Assuming he is feeling well, he will go back tomorrow. Besides being a tad fussier than usual, he doesn't act like he feels bad. But unfortunately that means no one but Mom and Dad got to see his shark outfit in person.

We can grab!

After much practice with our jungle gym, we are grabbing the little moving birds! He's still sort of exploring how to do this, but he is definitely understanding now that he can grab things with his hands. Next thing to tackle is rolling over!

Our new toy!

Lucas has a little bouncing toy like this at daycare and we decided it was time for him to have one at home as well! Looks like he is enjoying it so far :) He's still a little short, so needs a book to get his feet on the ground.

Solid Food Begins!

At our doctor's visit last week, Dr. Somers advised us that we should begin feeding rice cereal this month, which is great news because Lucas seems to grow hungrier by the day! So this week we started feeding him whole grain rice cereal mixed with a little breast milk. The first day he was not overly impressed, but we think he has the hang of it and daycare reports he is eating well there. Today after church he had two bowlfuls and a big smile when he was done!

4 Months

We have our 4 month check-up this morning and have lots of fun things to report:

Weight: 15.05 (60th percentile)
Height: 26.75 (96th percentile)
Head: 17 inches (75th percentile)

Grandma was right that we are not getting a tooth in yet - it is a salivary gland cyst that will go away on its own on his gum.

We got a number of shots that we weren't thrilled with. We are going to be started to eat some rice cereal!

Our visit to see Grandpa & Grandma!

Our first visit to see Grandpa and Grandma in Lake Jackson was action packed - we had our very first trip to the beach, got to visit with Kim & Dave and Uncle Justin & Kat. Uncle Justin gave us this cool LSU jersey. We also went to church where Grandma enjoyed showing Lucas off to all of her friends. It was a great visit!

School Pictures are In!

Lucas' very first school picture! Turned out pretty well if I do say so myself. Pretty serious, but he can save his smiles for his parents.

Today is our 4th month birthday, so look for a 4 month picture shortly (we are currently napping and need a bath). Tomorrow is also our 4 month check-up for more shots and a height/weight check. Mom is very excited to see how much I weigh now! Oh! And the best part - I have my first tooth!

Baylor v. Iowa State

Lucas made it to his second Baylor football game this year. Baylor has managed to win both times he was in attendance, so we're sure there is a connection. He really enjoys being outside and seemed to have a good time at the game. This time we sat further away from the loud speaker and it was an earlier game, so he took a little nap around halftime but didn't miss his bedtime by much. We got to see Aunt Shelley there and visited with Stephen and Stephanie and some loud obnoxious fans at Hooters before the game. That was also Lucas' first, and likely last, trip to Hooters.

Bathtime

Bathtime! Lucas recently discovered how much fun splashing in the bathtub was. He doesn't do much with his hands, but he really enjoys stomping his feet. We are looking for some bathtime tunes if anyone has suggestions :)

Jungle Gym

According to Rich's book, Lucas' milestone before he reaches 4 months that we need work on is grasping things intentionally. To aid in that, we got him a jungle gym with a spinning mobile and different colorful, noisy dangling things to tempt him into grabbing that he spends time under each morning. So far, no success except by accident, but he seems to have a good time and we're sure he will get it soon!

Aunt Leslie comes to visit!

Aunt Leslie came to visit today in her super cool car. We were so glad to see her and Lucas was on his best behavior!

School Picture Day!

Lucas' School Picture day was yesterday - his super cute outfit, and bad haircut, are both compliments of his mother.

Outfit selection number one is the cute football outfit with matching vest to the left. Ultimately though, we went with the orange plaid button down and very mature looking pair of jeans in the picture to the right.

Pictures for the infant room were the first on the list, so when I visited for lunch I asked how Lucas had done for his picture. "He didn't cry" was the response. So, we'll look forward to getting those pictures back and fingers crossed he did a little better than not crying! We did order a package with a number of wallets, so look for a wallet sized picture to arrive in the mail soon.
